Background to the Surrounding Area - The Erewash Canal (runs for 19 km/12 miles) starts from the River Trent at Trentlock, then goes through Long Eaton, after which it runs roughly parallel to the River Erewash, past Sandiacre and Ilkeston, crossing the river Erewash near Shipley Gate.
It is a broad canal, with 14 locks, the first at Langley Bridge, it ends at Langley Mill Great Northern basin, where it joins Nottingham Canal and the Cromford Canal. There is lots of activity along the canal with barges traversing daily, fishing and wildlife, making it an attractive changing panorama.

Canal Vue news

With help and inspiration our lady residents write to their pen pals at Park House, telling of their past activities and some of their current daily occupations. Pictured, Carer, Jemma Weston assisting resident Betty with her letter, Betty Dooley really enjoys singing, she used to play the organ and is able to do this at Canal Vue, this is inspiring for others such as Nancy who likes to sing and dance and has a lovely voice. Board games are popular and dominoes too. We recently had a Platinum wedding Anniversary of our residents Joan and Cyril Stevenson. See more about the other activities on our news pages.

What residents relatives/friends say about us:
Mum had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and eventually went into hospital for palliative care. After a few weeks the hospital said that she must move to a care home. We looked in dismay at several homes before finding Canal Vue that was a dream come true. Mum went there and had brilliant care for the last 5 weeks of her life. The homes management and staff were all very efficient, friendly and caring to both Mum and the whole family who were going through a difficult time - nothing was too much trouble. We miss Mum and our new friends at Canal Vue.
