D Day Celebrations with All the Gear at Park House!

Residents were treated to a whole display of authentic army gear as part of the Park House Celebrations;

One of our newest residents Marion, invited her son Jonathan Whyley to come share his interest in World War II memorabilia with the other residents.

Care Home Manager Marie Duke-Parker tries the gun for size and resident Pat is delighted to join in and pose with Jonathan.

Senior Carer Andrew Good gets ready for the D Day Celebrations at Park House, as he prepares to share some genuine props with the residents. Andrew used to garden for a Flight Engineer who worked on the Lancaster Bombers in India, he then donated the gear.

This proved to be a great reminiscence day for many to share memories, looking at pictures and army gear, as they recalled their days in action or what they were doing in Nottingham at the time of the D Day landings. Andrews own father was in the parachute regiment and landed in France.

Below, Andrew checks out the rifle.

A great display of mementos of the war created a lot of interest for the residents.

The tables looked great as the residents enjoyed their D Day tea party.

They were further engaged by entertainer Colin Jackson with songs from the bygone era and of course Vera Lyn 'numbers' were very popular.

Right Pat joins in the dancing, Andrew shows that he can not only 'Care', but dance as well!

Sunday Songs Entertain - from Take 5 Choir

The Take 5 Choir treat the Park House residents to a Sunday Sing-a-Long;

A mixture of musicals, '60's songs and current hits delighted the residents and lifted their spirits as only live music can do.

The sounds of the Everly Brothers and a Soprano Solo - 'I Could have Danced all Night' were especially popular.

One residents grandson remarked ' My Gran who used to love going to church and hearing the singing really enjoyed listening to a live choir again'

Below are our 3 Eastgate superstar singers; Clare McNuff, (Belle Vue) Sue Clifford (Operations Manager) & Marie Martin (Canal Vue) who are 'active' participants in the Take 5 choir, lead by Tanya.

We hope to make this a regular Sunday event at our care homes, now we know how much it is enjoyed by our residents' said Operations Manager Sue Clifford.

Canal Clean up Crew Stop for Tea at Canal Vue

This scenic spot on the Erewash Canal is improved for all the local residents when the Erewash Canal Society visit for the Spring Clean.

Our residents are able to enjoy a more 'litter-free' view as the team pick up an unbelievable amount of plastic and other rubbish that has been dropped or collects in the vegetation on the banks of the Erewash.

Canal Vue's staff show their appreciation and play host to the Erewash Canal Society.

The team in action below, doing a great job tidying up along the canal bank, trimming trees and undergrowth.

The Team enjoy their well earned cup of tea and scone as they don't very often  get these treats on work parties!

Erewash Canal Society help check the spring growth, so that the canal isn't overgrown and residents can walk along at this popular spot.

Work along the Canal Side enhances this lovely spot and really makes it more pleasant for all those in the vicinity and the work of the Erewash Canal Preservation Society is much appreciated.

'We were pleased to be able to host the working party on this Friday in May and the work they do is very important to our residents who 'look out' daily on this stretch of water'

Marie Martin - Eastgate's Support Manager at Canal Vue

The Lord Mayor of Nottingham - Councillor Merlita Bryan and Councillors Morris and Hartshorne, joined us for the opening of the New Dementia Care Wing at Park House.

The Mayor said 'It is a family place, welcoming to and for families and it has been made to look so attractive too' she remarked.

On this special occasion the Lord Mayor opened the proceedings, (pictured left cutting the ribbon, to pronounce the home open, with Eastgate's Operations Manager, Sue Clifford)....

Following a tour of the 'old & the new' building, which included meeting the residents at lunch, helping with the washing up and visiting residents in their rooms!

.

Care Home manager Jacqui Inglis  welcomed everyone to the lovely spacious new wing at Park House, with 17 en-suite rooms.

'Everyone has remarked on the outstanding style that we have here and we look forward to welcoming our new residents and offering our special level of Gold Standard Care' said Jacqui

A range of professionals, suppliers and working partners joined us for this special occasion - Arts, Pharmaceutical,  Adult Services, Carers & Law personnel  - a great cross section showed interest as

Guest speaker - lead from the Nottingham City Dementia Outreach team - shared her knowledge about dementia and the services available from this pioneering facility in the city.

The 'Outreach' team helps with early diagnosis of dementia, which can mean that individuals receive more appropriate treatment and thus experience better daily life. We were all better informed about the roles performed and the offerings available.

After which guests were able to enjoy lunch, home made delicacies (prepared by Lesley the Park House cook - pictured) mingle and have a look at the new facilities.

Wide corridors join the spacious bedrooms, which all have their own large en-suite facilities. A huge L shaped lounge with a glass frontage, gives great visibility of the surroundings and makes the whole unit

bright and attractive. Easy access enables individuals to move through to the lime-green dining area. This will provide superb much needed extra care facilities with access to the experienced - Gold Standard Park House Nursing Team.

Pictured below one of the colour co-ordinated spacious new rooms.
