Outings and Art For Melbourne House Residents

Lots of Trips and treats for our residents, followed by their own creativity;

Activity Co-ordinator Charise took residents to enjoy the Christmas Market in the City Centre.

Part of the outing involved getting the local bus, which they enjoyed as they were able to see lots of the local sites on the way 'to town'. Resident Maureen enjoys the attractions ofthe 'animal' stall and had her picture taken with this attractive Tigger!

One of the popular stalls to visit was inevitably the Fudge emporium. The flavours  help recall bygone days and there is no one doing portion control! Pictured resident Phillip.

The residents really enjoyed getting 'out and about' in their local city.

For 2014 our residents are embarking on an Arts and Crafts course run by Central College Nottingham.

Pictured below they have a go at drawing common objects and next week they will be doing some pottery.

Art gives individuals a great sense of purpose and being able to 'create' something gives them an enormous sense of achievement and pleasure.

Artwork created by resident Phillip above. He is creating lots and inspiring our other residents. He likes working with pens and is self taught.

Cycling Staff launched by Mayor at Melbourne House

The 'Cycle to Work' initiative got underway this week as Lord Mayor, Merlita Bryan came to help launch the step into greener transportation at Melbourne House;

"On your bikes, get set!!!" Carer Paul gets 'geared up' with his new Eastgate bike and hi viz jacket.

Following the successful launch of this programme at nearby Park House, staff at Melbourne House decided to give cycle to work a go and requested Eastgate  to provide bikes for them.

Eastgate go double green as Merlitta  cuts the ribbon.

Pictured Care Home Manager Louise Rimmer, Lord Mayor Merlitta Bryan, Pauline Zadwirny - Assistant Home Manager, Carers Christine  and Paul & Sue Clifford - Eastgate Operations Manager.

In the background Geo Green Power start their installation of PV roof panels to provide electricity from sunlight - clean safe and efficient - just like our cyclists!

Eastgate supports  programmes for reducing the carbon  footprint and our next recycling project is focusing on our paper and cardboard products across our homes.

 The virgin Melbourne cyclists set off 'round the block' to try out their new bikes - "Bradley eat your heart out"

Mayor Merlita tries Pauline's bike for size, unfortunately it cant be the mode of transport for civic functions, but she is whole-heartedly behind the cycling plan and encouraged our cyclists on their test ride and thought their efforts very enterprising.

 Our original 'virgins' - Park House Cycle to work staff, they are now feeling fitter, spend less time stuck in traffic and money on bus fares. The number of cycle to work participants is increasing with in excess of 7 cyclists now and more bikes on order.

 Fellow colleague at Park House, Activity Coordinator - Tara, smiles as she gets used to her bike and is pleased to be getting fitter too.

Autumn Fayre Fund Raiser & Family Outing at the Belle Vue

A family affair at the Belle Vue's Autumn party turned into a great money raising event for the resident's fund, as Care home manager Lisa Crewe celebrated her birthday, with her 'extended family'.

Resident Hilda helps Lisa open the Autumn fayre.

Group Razzle Dazzle once again worked very well to entertain the crowd, singing the songs everybody loved and could join in with, pictured here in their 'alternative' costumes, engaging their audience. Son of resident Mr Rankin, shared his powerful voice with us, singing operatic numbers.

Lisa's family join in as cute little Olivia(4) is held by big brother Zac (16 )

Another cute little girl, pictured Jenna's (Eastgate staff member) Sister Cally holds her niece.

Lots of fun was had by all, a good family and staff turn out offering great  support.  Lots of dancing and singing, plus  tombola, raffle, cake stall and bric a brac.  Pictured below Assistant Manager Clare McNuff and visitor Gemma wins a pink Barbie felt tip set on the tombola!

Lady residents enjoy the entertainment at their home - a great day out without going

An added bonus was that over  £200.00's was raised, in just a couple of hours, for the residents fund. Well done to all participants and organisers for their 'full on' support.
