Melbourne House 'Imagine Art' Engages Residents

Music, singing, story-telling, and puppetry - timeless entertainment forms were brought to Melbourne House by the City Arts Imagine project.

Artist Amanda Smith enthralls our residents with her great story telling skills.

The variety of art forms appealed to different individuals and this was part of the objective - to see what worked best for the residents.

'Lots of people smiled and laughed and focussed on the  storytelling and other planned exercises.  We also had some very special moments with individual residents, in particular with Anton, who was drawing on his etcher sketch. I took the Starchild puppet over and he held her hand and encouraged her to draw the picture with him. I felt that we had really reached him and her remained focused for some considerable time.'

Activitiy Coordinator Tracey engages resident Ethel with the music box.

The programme Imagine is one of only four nationally to be awarded money from Arts Council England and The Baring Foundation’s Arts and Older People in Care fund. The 3-year project will use the arts to enrich the lives of older residents, better involving them in the wider community and supports residents to connect with people of all ages.

The consortium consists of , City Arts, Nottingham City Council,The Abbeyfield Societyand the University of Nottingham. Wider partners include partner care homes and Nottingham’s arts venues, galleries and museums services.

Robin Hood Challenge - Joanne Runs for Park House Residents

'This is my first half Marathon since a fall earlier this year, I have been training now for 6 months and I am raising money for the residents fund at Park House where my Gran happily lives and has loads of friends, I will be running for all the residents there.' Said Joanne Wilson

Joanne visits her Gran - Mary Ball -  at Park House Care Home, Bulwell, frequently and even brings her little dog - Barlow, as Mary loves to see him.

Mary has been a resident here for over four years, one of our longest residents and this is her home where she has many friends and interests.

The Robin Hood Marathon starts and finishes at Victoria Embankment, Trent Bridge on the 27th September.

Please support Joanne in helping with the residents fund by sponsoring her.

Contact Caroline Downing at Park House; caroline.downing@eastgatecare.co.uk

and pledge your support for our runner Joanne.

We look forward to seeing Joanne in her Eastgate running vest and offer our support for her in this event. All at Eastgate are 'rooting' for Joanne and appreciate all the training and effort she is dedicating to this event.

Joanne says; This is my 2nd half marathon. My first was last year but I had not been training long and cried most of the way round! This year I plan to enjoy it. I started training in December but then had a nasty fall down the stairs and broke two ribs. So re started the training at the end of April.

Mary loves the outings, arranged by Katie the Activities Coordinator and Joanne having seen the enjoyment of the residents, decided to raise money running the Robin Hood half marathon for the residents fund.

'I love my gran very much and would do anything for her. She was always there for all of us when we were growing up'

Canal Vue Go French

Activities with a difference occured, when Activities Co-ordinator Megan White decided to celebrate Bastille Day with the residents at Canal Vue;

Inevitably a French affair requires food! Cook excelled himself and put on a great spread for this special occasion.

Megan didnt like the idea of eating the snails so decided to race them instead - perhaps something we could introduce to the French!

I wonder who won?

Theres always lots of different activities for the residents and staff to enjoy - variety is the spice of life! Staff and residents don their PJ's earlier in the year.

A little Vin to accompany the cheese on this occasion doesnt go amiss. Care home manager Cathy Brown and resident view the spread with anticipation on this shared occasion.

Alex has enough puff to blow out the candles.

It is party Month at Belle Vue, with 10 residents celebrating their birthdays. Such a social place - cook will be busy with all those cakes to make!

Lots of activities are planned with a trip to Nottingham Castle being a real highlight and the garden party summer favourite too.
