National Dignity Action Day - Eastgate Link In

Eastgate Care rises to the Challenge as Dignity Champions are appointed across the group.

To coincide with the National Dignity Day, the Eastgate Dignity Strategy was launched in recognition of its importance as part of daily life for the residents. Offering dignity to residents has always been part of our pathos, but making it a priority gives it a new emphasis for us all.

It is our aim, to support each manager in implementing an initiative that is specific to the individual home. Each home will also register staff members as Dignity Champions who will support the home to promote dignity in care.

Each home will aim to have a Dignity in Care board  and also a “dignity tree” which is centred around the views, likes, preferences, thoughts and feelings of the residents who live in each home. The Dignity Board will have on display the 10 Point Dignity Challenge poster.

'We want to make a difference to the lives of the people we care for and what better way than to hold our very own Eastgate Dignity in Action Plan'  said Operations Director, Sharon Di Maio.

Alexandra House - Excellent for the Environment!

*****

Gold Stars for Alexandra House

We are pleased to let you know that the Environmental Health Inspection maintained the Alexandra House five star rating.

Five Stars for tea time too, whern you can always rely on a good cuppa and home cooked cakes.

Not only are we good for the environment, we are also good for our residents. (Below) Some of the staff responsible for the friendly caring and healthy environment at 'Alex'

 What relatives really think of us.......

 ''The staff are extremely caring, hard working and cheerful. Alexandra House staff provide a clean "homely" comfortable environment for their residents. Many of the staff have worked there for many years thus providing a continuity of care which can only come from experience and an intimate knowledge of the individual residents. If I needed care I would choose to go there.''

Melbourne House Acheive Marvellous Results

“ We are very pleased and proud to achieve an overall rating of Good at Melbourne House following the recent CQC inspection. Melbourne House achieved a good rating for all five domains as a result of hard work, commitment and dedication from the staff team. It has been quite a journey over the last six months to implement new systems and to change practices across all our Eastgate Care Homes, these changes have been actively embraced by our staff teams and this is reflected in our most recent Melbourne House CQC report.

Well done and congratulations to our Melbourne House team.”

Revamp for Christmas at Melbourne House

As well as the usual Christmas decorations, the communal areas at Melbourne House have been made even more cosy and 'user friendly';

 A cloakroom like area has been created where residents can use the hat stand and coiff their hair which is proving popular. A new seating area, for when friends and relatives visit, offers a cosy private area for chatting. New wooden chairs in the dining area, with padded seating, look good too.

Residents have already been enjoying beauty and aromatherapy treatments and a new retro wall is planned for 2016, displaying traditional black and white photographs from residents, relatives and friends.

Activities at Melbourne are driven forward by the enthusiastic coordinator Trayce Pullen - pictured right with residents and visitors at the recent successful card design event, sponsored by the Sherwood Group.

Music is likely to be prevalent on next years activities schedule, recognised as one of the best 'therapies' for older people. City Arts as part of their Imagine Programme, in conjunction with Lakeside Arts will be visiting early in 2016 to coordinate musical events.

Trayce has forged good links with the local college and following students recent voluntary work, they are planning to revisit in the summer. 'It is really rewarding all round when students participate at the home and the older people love it too' said Trayce

Residents Create Christmas Cards

Inspiration came from Melbourne's Activity Coordinator Trayce Pullen and The Sherwood Press Group for this recent creative activity;

Residents showed  their flare and skill as they got together with Sherwood Press to make their own Christmas Cards.

Head Designer from the Sherwood Press Group selected his favourite designs whilst creative leader Anna provided motivation and creativity. Pictured Above; Residents and staff get creative with Anna of Sherwood Press, resident Marjorie, Trayce Pullen - Activity Co-ordinator, resident Jean, Gillian (friend of Melbourne House) resident Ivy

The best designs were selected to go to print and be packaged for sale in order to raise money for the residents fund. As well as giving their time and skills, all materials were donated by the Sherwood Group, we thank them for their generosity.

Cards are on sale now at Melbourne House. Pictured the chosen designs

Thank You for 25 Years of Care to Staff

The staff are what really makes the difference on a daily and indeed yearly basis – this was recently borne out at the Long Service Awards Ceremony at County Hall, Nottingham.

It has been my pleasure to work with the great teams of people employed by  Eastgate, over the 25 years, with their hard work and dedication to the residents and the running of the homes, they are the real key to providing successful care, including; managers, nurses, carers, domestic and administrative staff.’ said James Day

A special book presented to Mr & Mrs Day on this momentous occasion.

Care Home Managers joined in the Awards, supporting their teams and nominating their current team members who 'go the extra mile' to support the residents and the home team.

Office Manager Janine Morgan replies to the accolades to staff and acknowledges that there is something about leadership which may have a part to play in the success of Eastgate Care.

'It takes passion, dedication and commitment from the staff team to be a success in this industry, however as in any organisation to achieve success we need a great leader. Mr Day over the years and to date has shown what it is to be a good leader by truly caring and showing a genuine interest in his staff team and the people who use the services.'

An additional 6 awards went to current personnel for their outstanding commitment, Susan assists James in presenting certificates, pictured with; Carol, Paula, and Martin.
