Sunday Songs Entertain - from Take 5 Choir

The Take 5 Choir treat the Park House residents to a Sunday Sing-a-Long;

A mixture of musicals, '60's songs and current hits delighted the residents and lifted their spirits as only live music can do.

The sounds of the Everly Brothers and a Soprano Solo - 'I Could have Danced all Night' were especially popular.

One residents grandson remarked ' My Gran who used to love going to church and hearing the singing really enjoyed listening to a live choir again'

Below are our 3 Eastgate superstar singers; Clare McNuff, (Belle Vue) Sue Clifford (Operations Manager) & Marie Martin (Canal Vue) who are 'active' participants in the Take 5 choir, lead by Tanya.

We hope to make this a regular Sunday event at our care homes, now we know how much it is enjoyed by our residents' said Operations Manager Sue Clifford.

Canal Clean up Crew Stop for Tea at Canal Vue

This scenic spot on the Erewash Canal is improved for all the local residents when the Erewash Canal Society visit for the Spring Clean.

Our residents are able to enjoy a more 'litter-free' view as the team pick up an unbelievable amount of plastic and other rubbish that has been dropped or collects in the vegetation on the banks of the Erewash.

Canal Vue's staff show their appreciation and play host to the Erewash Canal Society.

The team in action below, doing a great job tidying up along the canal bank, trimming trees and undergrowth.

The Team enjoy their well earned cup of tea and scone as they don't very often  get these treats on work parties!

Erewash Canal Society help check the spring growth, so that the canal isn't overgrown and residents can walk along at this popular spot.

Work along the Canal Side enhances this lovely spot and really makes it more pleasant for all those in the vicinity and the work of the Erewash Canal Preservation Society is much appreciated.

'We were pleased to be able to host the working party on this Friday in May and the work they do is very important to our residents who 'look out' daily on this stretch of water'

Marie Martin - Eastgate's Support Manager at Canal Vue

Multi-talented New Starter at Canal Vue

 Our latest recruit at Canal Vue can both Care and Coordinate - he is young and fit and gets on well with older people.

Daniel (left) trained in sports and leisure at West Bridgeford College, where he achieved great successes in both tennis and hockey.

He brings his agility and energy levels to share with Marie Martins team at Canal Vue. Daniel also has some experience in caring and lots of ideas for a variety of activities.

We look forward to hearing about his exploits in the coming months and what our new residents 'get up to' in this great care home setting.

Residents Enjoy Boots Pamper & Art at Park House Bulwell

A band of 20 volunteers from the Boots head office in Nottingham joined our Park House residents for a day of pampering, arts and crafts and socialising.

 The team treated the ladies to luxurious manicures and hand massages, which made them feel so special some even said they felt like a celebrity for the day!

Art which all could join in with, accessible stencilling enabling painting and montage to encourage creativity too.

The gentlemen residents declined any pampering - feeling they were 'beautiful enough' but chose to play board games and help out with the painting instead. Its fair to say that a good time was had by all!

Boots staff said;

It was an absolute privilege to join you all for the day. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, whilst also feeling like we had brought smiles to so many of the residents faces. Some of your residence have the most incredible stories and it was a pleasure to sit with them and listen.

 One lady told me about her undying love for Elvis Presley, so we sat chatting in her room whilst playing some of his songs on my iPod. Its surprising how something so seemingly simple can bring so much joy! We will definitely be back!

Eastgate is very pleased to have the Boots Community team to visit and bring joy and interactivity. It really was a lovely day and we have some great art stencils on the walls to remind us of the visit. We look forward to welcoming them back sometime soon.

Activities really are key to daily life at Melbourne House.

We have a range of activities planned by Activities Co-ordinator Charise, the following pictures capture the great contrast available, from relaxing and pamper to thought provoking art;

Hands R Us visited Melbourne House to make our lady residents feel good.

There's nothing like a bit of pampering to make you smile as borne out by our residents here.

Nail painting and hand massage, plus a goodie bag for your pampering bits!

Note the nicely varnished nails too!

City College visit the home with their art programme weekly and encourage use of all sorts of 'media'

This week it is time for pottery and pebble painting.

Maureen Marriott shows how this pastime can be very involving, as she is really concentrating to the full here.

 Irene also concentrates  hard here to decorate her pebbles.

A Very Successful CQC report at Alexandra House

We are delighted and proud to announce that Alexandra House Care Home at Eastwood received excellent results from their recent CQC inspection, which assesses how we are meeting their standards.

 The CQC inspection looks at the level of care and support we offer our residents across a range of principles.

The CQC monitors the essential standards of quality and safety and covers 16 standards ranging from appropriate care, safety, staffing, and nutrition through to equipment suitability.

Alexandra House were commended for their infection control & tissue viability and they received a 'glowing report'  for their attention to dignity.

Showing a commitment to nutrition and hydration in conjunction with a new range of menus has aided the focus on resident’s dietary needs.

‘Alex House’ has an impressive track record in assessing resident’s needs and we are especially good at providing a ‘home from home’ with daily prepared fresh food.

We are also tops at laundry - but we weren't measured on that!
