Strategic Changes at Eastgate Care, within the senior management team, are helping to drive upwards the standards of care offered to our 280 residents and improve efficiency of the business;

Earlier this year Matthew Whitefield took over as Operations Manager and Janine Morgan became Managing Director. They are settling well and are very suited to their positions.

Janine has several years experience with Eastgate, managing the White Swan Head Office site and finance. Whilst Matthew has many years experience within the care sector.

'Their skills are complimentary and  each has a specialisation, with the addition of good functional leaders on the management team, the synergy is now starting to be reflected in the all round performance of the organisation

James Day CEO Eastgate Care.

We are pleased to welcome Rashpal Johal to her additional role as Company Secretary, following 2 successful years working at head office in a variety of roles. Her banking experience is a real asset in this important position.

Impressions from Matthew Whitefield—Operations Manager

…...After just 3 months Matthew is firmly entrenched at the five Eastgate Care, homes  finding that the staff are good hearted, kind, decent people. Having worked for other providers, discovering the excellent standards of accommodation for residents at Eastgate is refreshing.  Another massive plus is the support given by the relatives who offer their interest and involvement to life at the homes.  I feel comfortable with my position within the senior management team, the co-operation is good and we have a lot of respect for each other’s roles, which has really positive impacts on the care service we offer’

Managing Director Janine Morgan - Along with her administrative and financial skills, Janine brings to her new role at Eastgate nearly two year's experience of working at the White Swan Eastgate Head Office. She has comprehensive knowledge of Care Home Operations, a good understanding of customer supplier relations, is a great team player and Manager.

Promotion—In under 2 years with Eastgate Care and Caroline Carraher is rewarded with promotion to Care Home Manager. Starting out as Administration Manager at Alexandra House Caroline knew right from the start, when being interviewed, that she wanted to work in Care, at Alex! Previous work experience in customer service, in a wide range of businesses helped, said Caroline, My background in customer service was great preparation for this role, organising and providing care. Pairing up with an experienced Clinical Lead and a strong caring staff, provides the ultimate combination for care at Alex’

When you walk into Alexandra House you immediately feel the warm welcoming air.

Pen Pals from Canal Vue, Communicate with Park House

Given inspiration from Activities Coordinator Louise Chadwick and help from their carers, our lady residents took to letter writing............. to their counterparts at Park House. Meet the letter writers;

Carer, Jemma Weston assists resident Betty with her letter to residents at Park House. They  share their stories of pastimes and things they like to do currenty at their care home Canal Vue,

Betty Dooley always has a good laugh and really enjoys singing she used to play the organ so often we get the organ out for her to play.

Marjorie is fond of a game or two and is a dab hand at dominos and likes to join in the many activities.
Nancy likes to enjoy the view out across the canal, she looks nice and relaxed here, but she also loves to sing and dance and she has a lovely voice - a good thing to tell others about.

The chaps aren't much into letter writing so get on with their chair based exercises, but maybe Louise will manage to enlist them at some stage?

We're looking forward to receiving reply from Park House, sometime soon.......

In the meantime, there's always something to see and do at Canal Vue!

The sun shone on Alex House, the grounds were full of visitors from the surrounding area, along with lots and lots of residents family and friends.

Get the bunting out - record crowds gathered for the popular summer fair, we can see why, with lots of varied entertainment and activities.

The mayor and deputy mayor opened the event and spent the whole afternoon with us, joining in with the day's activities.

Joan presenting the mayor with flowers. along with chief organiser, Debbie.

Debbie - Activities Coordinator is a real asset and as well as great activities she emanates warmth, fun and understanding and is  building strong links with the local community in Eastwood, reflected in this great event.

Residents in red:George and Eileen watching all the events take place at the summer fare.

Resident Derek, with his grandson, very happy after winning a raffle prize.

Great that family and friends could join in with the days activities.

We were entertained by three Belly dancers............wow what a show they put on. All the audience clapping along with them.

Singer Kiera played guitar and sang lots of lovely songs from the Beetles to Judy Garland. John our favourite singing cowboy sang some lovely folk songs

It was all happening; BBQ, Hook a duck, singing, guessing the weight of the cake.

The tombola was taken care of by Rita and Wendy, the daughters of our resident Ella, they said, 'they have never seen the place so busy.'

A special cake was made by Anne, the deputy manager, and won by a local resident.

They are certainly good at baking cakes at Alex and the cake stall helped to boost the funds raised.

Activity Week at Alexandra House, Eastwood

A raft of activities took place last week, with; visitors, art, sales......to name but a few;

The Eastwood Brownies came along to do their "Entertainment badge" at Alexandra House. They truly entertained us with, jokes, poem recital, singing, dancing, ukulele, and their brown owl Nova did some belly dancing for us. They also prepared us some programmes to follow them along the way. Residents Ilene and George Hand said it was such a treat to see all the youngsters in the home bringing such talent with them.

The girls were presented with their entertainment badge on the night and all went home with a little treat from us all here at Alexandra House, as a thank you.

Activities Co-ordinator, Debbie Bonser, does a great job organising a whole range of daily entertainment to suit all types of individuals at the home. With the addition of warmth and a sense of humour Debbie is able to fill the home with joy, she emanates warmth, fun and understanding and is busy building strong links with the local community at Eastwood.

Organiser Debbie arranged for the residents to be able to shop 'in their own home'  All residents had a browse at the clothes and jewellery and all had a nice slice of Chocolate cake and a cup of tea........after all its thirsty work shopping.....isn't it!

Carer Zoe helps with the selection process.

Mary our new resident had a great time getting to know Alan and painting a beautiful picture of flowers. Alan is a keen artist and since moving to Alex House has carried on with his hobby. Debbie wheels Alan round to Eastwood Artists club at Hilltop church, every Wednesday, where he meets up with his old friends.

'Its great for Alan to be able to carry on with his interests inside and outside the home.'

Sheila Parr, looking good and pleased with her new hair do.

Priory School share their flowers with our residents - the giving and sharing so lovely to see.

Pictured Mary Breem from Tipperary, together we "pimped up" her frame. This makes it easily recognisable for herself and staff, which she loves. Mary likes saying to everybody that she's Irish through and through, even though she has lived here in Eastwood for over 60 years!

Care Home Manager, Caroline Carraher, below, is fully behind all the activities;

'I especially love seeing the old and young together. The joy of giving and sharing is captured so well in the recent school flower and the Brownie visits.'

This picture is just so cute of our Brownie Visitors, entertaining the residents.
