Forging Strong School Links at Eastwood Care Home

We are pleased to announce our new venture as we link to local Brookhill Leys Primary & Nursery School:

Alexandra House is renowned for its close association with the local community and in particular the links with the young people of Eastwood. This has helped forge the close ties with the local School and initiate the new project.

A lot of the residents are not mobile and it is a real treat when youngsters visit from schools, brownies and choirs; they are all joyous sharing occasions.

The aim of this new venture allows and encourages young children to interact with our residents and for the children to engage with caring for others and learn about the past. Our overall objective is to generate enjoyment, learning and communication across the age groups.

Research shows that developing relationships between the elderly and the young benefits the wellbeing of both parties and we have certainly found this to be true.
‘’The children visit every Monday and it is like a breath of fresh air, tumbling into the home!’’ Said the care-home manager.
 Activities Coordinator- Debbie Bonser spearheaded the project with the Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Sainsbury and class teacher Charlotte.

Alexandra House is a place called home, for the 38 residents

‘’I've wanted to make this connection for many years. My career began with the elderly and I understand passionately the importance of this communication between the children and the residents of Alexandra House’  confirmed Matthew.R. Whitfield – Eastgate Care’s Operations Manager.

This sharing partnership has already started. Verbal communications are strengthening and we are now into week three. The children come running noisily into Alexandra House. The traditional ‘snakes and ladders’ gets everyone excited, and other games such as Connect 4 prove popular too. A relaxed chat session about ‘what happened on the week-end’ created an exchange of ideas with fruit and refreshment concluding the visits.

'We are all  pleased with the outcome. The residents are thoroughly enjoying the children’s company and we have made the children a thank you card.' Said Debbie, pictured below;
