Nottingham Residents News from Eastgate Care

Activity Week at Alexandra House, Eastwood

A raft of activities took place last week, with; visitors, art, sales......to name but a few;

The Eastwood Brownies came along to do their "Entertainment badge" at Alexandra House. They truly entertained us with, jokes, poem recital, singing, dancing, ukulele, and their brown owl Nova did some belly dancing for us. They also prepared us some programmes to follow them along the way. Residents Ilene and George Hand said it was such a treat to see all the youngsters in the home bringing such talent with them.

The girls were presented with their entertainment badge on the night and all went home with a little treat from us all here at Alexandra House, as a thank you.

Activities Co-ordinator, Debbie Bonser, does a great job organising a whole range of daily entertainment to suit all types of individuals at the home. With the addition of warmth and a sense of humour Debbie is able to fill the home with joy, she emanates warmth, fun and understanding and is busy building strong links with the local community at Eastwood.

Organiser Debbie arranged for the residents to be able to shop 'in their own home'  All residents had a browse at the clothes and jewellery and all had a nice slice of Chocolate cake and a cup of tea........after all its thirsty work shopping.....isn't it!

Carer Zoe helps with the selection process.

Mary our new resident had a great time getting to know Alan and painting a beautiful picture of flowers. Alan is a keen artist and since moving to Alex House has carried on with his hobby. Debbie wheels Alan round to Eastwood Artists club at Hilltop church, every Wednesday, where he meets up with his old friends.

'Its great for Alan to be able to carry on with his interests inside and outside the home.'

Sheila Parr, looking good and pleased with her new hair do.

Priory School share their flowers with our residents - the giving and sharing so lovely to see.

Pictured Mary Breem from Tipperary, together we "pimped up" her frame. This makes it easily recognisable for herself and staff, which she loves. Mary likes saying to everybody that she's Irish through and through, even though she has lived here in Eastwood for over 60 years!

Care Home Manager, Caroline Carraher, below, is fully behind all the activities;

'I especially love seeing the old and young together. The joy of giving and sharing is captured so well in the recent school flower and the Brownie visits.'

This picture is just so cute of our Brownie Visitors, entertaining the residents.

Alexandra House, a place called home - full of fun and care.

Evelyn's Parting Rose at Park House, Bulwell

A moving tribute to mark the departure of long time resident and part of the Park House family, Evelyn Savidge;

The late Evelyn Savidge who passed away recently. Evelyn was 101 years old!! And spent the last 7 years of her life with us at Park House, sharing her 100th Birthday Celebrations with us.

As a thank you to all of the caring staff that looked after Evelyn, the family have bought the Rose Evelyn, to be planted in the Park House Garden, as a living memory of Evelyns time with us. And one rose each for Ruth Woodward and Caroline Downing who helped make a difference on a daily basis.

Evelyn's Rose will have a place in the tranquil Park House garden and be enjoyed by many staff and residents.

Diamond Duo & National Care Home Day at Alexandra House Eastwood

Friends and relatives gathered to share this special occasion with our Diamond - 60 Years - Couple, Margaret and Michael Hussey.

A lot of family came over from Ireland to join in the festivities and share this specail occasion. A wonderful message was received from the Queen.

Pictured with Michaell, his son, who will be celebrating his 60th birthday soon ........!

Friends at Alex enjoy sharing the very grand tea, lovely salmon and cucumber sandwiches and lush cream cakes - they love a reason to get the china out and what better way to share with friends on such an occasion.

Not to be missed on Friday,

Open house with tea and cakes on offer all day and a classical singer called Natalie Visiting.

They do know how to get out the china and put on music, it will be a great atomosphere, so do stop by.

Say it With Flowers & Priory School Children did! - Visiting Alexandra House

What a lovely Friday treat when children from Priory School came to share their flowers with us;

Red tulips were very popular with the lady residents and Nora is positively glowing with this gift.

The children did enjoy visiting us again and will be back to sing some songs next term after their summer musical production.

Even the gents can enjoy flowers and this was a lovely bouquet, presented by the children after a special mass at the local church.

Priory school visited us previously bringing flowers, they know what joy they can bring!

Activities Coordinator Debbie, who arranged the visit said

What a treat this was and our home is filled with colour and fragrance..........lucky us. Our great community links with the local schools are priceless.'

'I especially love seeing the old and young together and the joy of giving and sharing is captured so well on this picture of the ‘flower’ visit.' said the care home manager.

Even this lady resident who wasnt able to get to the lounge was able to appreciate the flowers (almost disappearing behind them) i can see her smiling and her visitor is too.

We look forward to the next visit by Priory School and thank them for coming to share their flowers with us at Alexandra House.
