The preceptorship programme is being introduced by Eastgate Care, in its 4 Nottingham Care Homes, to assist newly qualified staff in consolidating their course content and helping them to translate theoretical knowledge into practical skills.

What is Preceptorship? This is an important element of the Post Registration Education and Practice Proposals put forward by the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) and is equally valid for all newly qualified clinical staff.

Starting Out Beginning a new role can cause anxiety and this period of support will help in the transition period between student and qualified clinician. Individuals are accountable for their practice, but can expect support from colleagues during this period.

Preceptorship is innovative in the Care Home environment; it indicates our commitment to learning and developing our staff and requires a long term investment from Eastgate, to ensure its effective implementation across the homes
