Learning and Development at Eastgate Care


Eastgate Care has an active learning and development programme. All new employees are offered the opportunity to start an appropriate NVQ training programme. From day one staff will have their own personal development plan as a guide to their career development within the company.

New Staff

All care and ancillary staff currently have an induction course covering an extensive range of topics, including:

Staff who are new to care undertake the new streamlined Common Induction Standards Course, which covers 12 areas, ranging from Company Orientation through to Moving and Handling, with a focus on actual training.

Registered nurses have an individual Induction process and are sent on external courses relevant to their needs.
New Starters are issued with a programme to ensure they know how to achieve their personal continuous development plan.

Personal Development

We aim to encourage staff development and all staff who are new to 'care', regardless of their role, are encouraged to complete an NVQ

Courses are constantly being developed and upgraded.

Learning & development and the provision of a competent, not just compliant staff is central to our health and care agenda. The Care Certificate, which will replace the Common Induction Standards, came into place in March 2015 and is supported by the new Care Act 2015 and the 'Positive and Proactive Workforce' (2014) document, which in turn form the guidance for the CQC Inspectors. The Care Certificate ensures that skills obtained are transferrable, assessment is to a set standard and our Assessors are now 'geared up' for this. We have the framework and documentation in place to roll this out across all our Care Homes.

The Learning & Development Manager is focused on ensuring that the tuition and development of our staff remains of paramount importance in continuing to deliver exceptional care to our Residents.
