Canal Vue Go French

Activities with a difference occured, when Activities Co-ordinator Megan White decided to celebrate Bastille Day with the residents at Canal Vue;

Inevitably a French affair requires food! Cook excelled himself and put on a great spread for this special occasion.

Megan didnt like the idea of eating the snails so decided to race them instead - perhaps something we could introduce to the French!

I wonder who won?

Theres always lots of different activities for the residents and staff to enjoy - variety is the spice of life! Staff and residents don their PJ's earlier in the year.

A little Vin to accompany the cheese on this occasion doesnt go amiss. Care home manager Cathy Brown and resident view the spread with anticipation on this shared occasion.

Celebrations Galore at Belle Vue

A special Birthday was enjoyed by Alex, (Alojzy Bieseck) one of Belle Vue's first residents. Shown below enjoying and sharing it with  staff and other residents.

The Belle Vue atrium was decorated for the occasion and is a great place to have a party and Alex's birthday lunch.

Sharing some cake with Clare.

Alex has enough puff to blow out the candles.

It is party Month at Belle Vue, with 10 residents celebrating their birthdays. Such a social place - cook will be busy with all those cakes to make!

Lots of activities are planned with a trip to Nottingham Castle being a real highlight and the garden party summer favourite too.

Cream teas, Carribean night and always Coffee and Chat are on the agenda.

Usual Monday memory boxes, food tasting Thursdays and pamper Fridays will all be taking place on a regular basis

New Look for resident Ian at Park House

Ian Headspeath decides to do something special for charity, to raise money for the Childrens Cancer Unit at Nottinghams Queens Medical Centre.

Resident at Park House from January 2014, Ian grew his beard so that he could undertake the sponsored shave at Park House Care Home, Bulwell.

It proved to be quite an occasion and his carer Ruth Woodward and Katie Feetham (Activities) took charge.

Ready steady go....

Ian seemed to enjoy the event and looks happy to be cleanshaven raising £160.0's with his 'stunt' for children.

Spring Fayre at Canal Vue by Erewash - Saturday 2nd May 2pm

Come and join us at the first of our fayres in 2015 with plenty of buying opportunities and a good cup of tea, accompanied by some home baking. Be sure to be there this Saturday 2nd May, from 2pm

We welcome relatives and friends, local residents too, to come and appreciate the lovely lounge at Canal Vue.

A great venue for a spring fayre and our residents will enjoy visitors and the opportunity to 'shop' in their own home.

There will be activities too come and see what you can do?

Come and look at this 'designer home' with it's great canal location and friendly welcoming team.

'My Grandmother is in Canal Vue, and loves it. She is well looked after there by all staff, they are all very kind and caring. She enjoys all activities that are held at Canal Vue. And everyone has a lot of time for her.'

Worth a visit!

Well Received at Park House - Sparky Revived

Hello Helen -

After visiting Mary yesterday we have noticed a marked improvement in the atmosphere and general ambience of Park House over the last couple of weeks. The staff seem much more at ease and seem to be now enjoying their work. The placing of a nurse's station in the centre of the main lounge is a great idea as it means that there is always a member of staff present, which has not been the case over the last few months.

We have also noticed that there are 2 new residents in the corner of the lounge (the budgies). This is also a great idea as we think it has a calming effect on the residents and We are sure that they appreciate this. Sparky was sadly missed.

We have also noticed that tea/coffee is now given mid morning and mid afternoon as it should be and also visitors are offered a drink, which again is much appreciated.

We sincerely hope that this good work will continue when the new manager takes up her post.

Thanking you again

Kind regards

Graham and Marion

Melbourne House gets the Top Recommendations

Highly recommended.........................

Melbourne House gains 5 recommendations over the past month and becomes Eastgates hightest rated home with a fabulous 9.4 points out of 10 on the carehome.co.uk scale. (this is the leading indicator of performance in the UK)

This is borne out further by the Nancy and Maxs'  family who put this into words on their thank you card to all the staff.

I am writing on behalf of our family to express thanks for the care you gave to Mum and Dad (Nancy and Max) when they lived at Melbourne House. I would particularly like to thank your for the devotion shown to Dad at the time of his death and the support you gave us.

There are many staff who’s names I am not familiar with and I do not want to leave anyone out because they are all worthy of thanks. However I would like to ask you to pass on our gratitude to Alicia, she went beyond the call of duty staying to sit with Dad when he was right near the end, even though she was off-duty. Rachel a stalwart throughout Mum and Dads time with you and always strove to ensure they received the best care possible. Antoinette was very kind to Mum in the mornings and I really appreciated the way Barry and Christine supported them both calmly, firmly and kindly. I also have to mention Koalas strength and commitment to Dad in his final hours.

I know that Dad had great respect Pauline, as do I, You always made yourself available and willing to help us and were a great support to me. Thank you for attending Dad’s funeral, I guess it is sometimes in the small things we notice the real depth of care – I’ll never forget the way you warmed up my soup when staying at the home, shortly after Dad’s death, you were busy and also ill and should’ve been at home in bed, but you took care of my needs.

I hope all is well at Melbourne House and wish you the very best for the future, please accept the enclosed cheque as a small token of thanks for your staff. Please use it as you see appropriate.

Once again many thanks for all you’ve done for us.

Jim S & Sue S

Care Home Manager, Pauline Zadwirny, proud of her 'caring team' and a shining example herself.

Staff and residents at recent Pajama gathering!
