Weather Forces National Care Home Open Days Indoors

Everyone is wondering when the summer will arrive, but planned summer activities for National Care Home Day continued despite the awful weather! Both Alexandra House at Eastwood and Melbourne House at Aspley were blighted by the weather and had to move planned entertainment indoors;

As always a good spread of food was available for the residents at Alex House on their open day.

Tombola, raffle and some stalls complimented the entertainment, residents like doing a bit of 'home shopping' at their Eastwood residence

Resident Monica at Melbourne House enjoys the music, participates and concentrates on playing the tambourine.

Staff enjoy a bit of party time - sharing - as well.

Care Certificate Achievement for Mapperley Care Home

 We are pleased to announce the outstanding performance of Adam Curtis in achieving his Care Certificate.

Adam works at Belle Vue Lodge, Mapperley and was assisted in this endeavour by Senior Carer Lisa Cook. Both pictured right;

'I believe Adam’s presentation of the evidence was first class, with excellent attention to detail and that Lisa Cook's enthusiasm and organisation was incredible. We are proud to have them both as members of our team ' said Care Home Manager, Lisa Crewe.

This is a great accolade for the superb training facilities we have at Eastgate Care, managed by Facilitator Fiona McCandless-Sugg.

Fish Friday & a Fine Sunny day at Canal Vue

No wonder it is popular at Canal Vue....................................especially on Fridays;

 I was checking out the view from the sunny patio when the waft of Fish n Chips caught my attention. There must be a chip shop nearby I thought, then I was reliably informed that it was Fish Fridays at Canal Vue - so I had to 'check out' the kitchen ....................................

The tow path is looking lovely for a stroll, with the trees just coming into leaf - a great place to 'stop n stare'.

The serious business of dipping the fish in John's special beer batter.

 Kitchen Assistants; Alison and Laura, preparing the choices to accompany the fish; mash or chips, garden peas or mushy. I forgot to ask what was for dessert - there's always choice for the residents.

Resident Michael, looking jolly in the stripy top with his visitor Kay (who was dying to get out and do some tidying up of the pots on the patio - volunteers most welcome to help! with the gardening.....) No doubt looking forward to his F & C lunch.

Part of the super friendly  Canal Vue team, who obliged with numerous photos during the morning.

Pictured; Jodie, Larraine, Kayleigh, Ann, Megan, Wendy and Margena.

 Just a cup of tea for me please. Eveleena with the tea trolley.

A lovely sunny day by the Erewash Canal.

Ponies party at Park House Bulwell

Park House Celebrated the Queens birthday in a slightly different way, when special visitors Clip Clop Ponies arrived;

Park House Carer, Lynne Brown has a friend who owns the ponies and thought it would be a good idea to bring them in for a visit. Animals are always a good 'talking point' and provide an interest and encourage residents to discuss their experience with animals.

Below, Carer Leann Coupe helps residents integrate with the visiting ponies;

Resident Pat Wass certainly seemed a natural with the animals and enjoys a chat with the pony handler too.

Clip Clop ponies enjoyed the affection from residents who in turn enjoyed being able to pet them. Resident Evelyn Cropley pictured;

Eastgates Human Resource advisor ,Sue Young, is a 'dab hand' with the equine world, but is used to somewhat larger specimens! Sue is interested though to see how staff and residents enjoy the special visit.

Queens Party - Cakes at Canal Vue Ilkeston

Queens Birthday Tea Party gets all involved

 Preparations get underway for a special party .............

The atrium at Canal Vue, overlooking the scenic Erewash Canal, makes a great party room and the Royal theme really 'suits'.

Resident Mary concentrates on mixing this special Victoria sponge for the party.

 Rita Howard and Winni Bramley busy organising ................ Party time is brilliant for getting all involved and the ladies like being busy and useful.

Resident Patricia relishes a bit of that cake which Kitchen Assistant Allyson  completed, she made a really good job, great stuff.

All the preparations culminate in a great tea party on this grand occasion. Well done to all the staff, from kitchen to carers and of course Activities Coordinator Megan, for making this an enjoyable event for our residents to participate in.

Activities Galore at Melbourne

A whole range of pastimes have been 'going on' at Melbourne House ............................

Not to be daunted by the wet weather, volunteer flower  arranger Jan Hayes visits to help the residents prepare some table decorations for Easter. Pictured below resident Irene with her display.

Exercise bands are not just for the youngsters! Amazing what you can do with chair exercises and the help of instructor Ross who came to inspire........

Pictured Madelaine and Irene with  carer.

Music is very popular at Melbourne and this singer Amy Bird from bluebell entertainment, especially so. The residents loved it as she mingled in and seemed to be singing individually to each and every one of them. The 1940's costume was fab too and added to the spectacle.

Music and dance gives the best of both worlds - uplifting and some movement too.  Staff get involved and enjoy it too. Carer Jeana helps residents to 'get dancin' (she is a bit of a rock n roll queen in her spare time!)
