Bringing new experiences to everyone at Alexandra House Care Home, activities coordinator Charlotte Bell introduces South African culture during the country’s national holiday, Freedom Day.
Sampling a traditional fish curry followed by a pudding we watched traditional South African dancing on the TV, listened to traditional melodic music, and took part in a craft activity making jewellery and colouring flags.

Activities Coordinator Charlotte Bell says: “We all enjoyed learning something new and understanding Freedom Day which celebrates freedom and commemorates the first post-apartheid elections. Getting hands-on and making African inspired jewellery was a wonderful creative activity, but best of all was the fish curry was a new experience for many of us and we thoroughly enjoyed.”
