Residents at Alexandra House are able to enjoy getting out into the garden to experience the sights and smells of spring as the garden grows.
Adding further benefit to the home, the garden is a place where those with dementia can engage with nature and be stimulated by the sensory experience of engaging with the sights smells, sound and touch of the plants.
For others it’s a place that reminds them of a hobby they once had, or just a place to enjoy the calming effects of nature as the birds and insects get to work pollinating and enriching the garden.
Lorraine Abbiss, Care Home Manager at Alexandra House says: “Now that the weather is getting slightly better we’re able to take advantage of our safe and accessible raised beds. Still in their infancy for the season they will eventually attract wildlife such as birds and insects to provide a nice place to sit or wander to be immersed in the calming effects of nature.”
