When Donald mentioned to Naomi, Activities Coordinator at Canal Vue Care Home, that he would love to take a ride in a Fire Engine Naomi set-to and made his dream come true.
After contacting the amazing Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, and explaining the ambition of 106 year old Donald Rose, they were only too happy to help and set the wheels in motion to make Donald’s dreams come true.
It what was a very special day, Donald was taken to the local Ilkeston Fire Station as guest of honour where he was treated to a tour of the station, firefighter demonstrations, and introductions to our wonderful firefighters themselves, before being chauffeur driven back to Canal Vue Care Home in a gleaming red Fire Engine.
Naomi Allsop, Activities Coordinator at Canal Vue Care Home says: “Donald has achieved so much in his life, a as highly decorated war veteran he has received many medals including the Legion of Honour. His life experiences surpass what most of us will ever achieve, but when he mentioned his desire to take a ride in a Fire Engine I knew I had to make it happen for him. We are all so thankful to Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service for making Donald’s day, but ours too, dreams really do come true!”
