Not many care homes have their own in-house entertainment, especially not in the form a perfectly matched duo of vocals and guitar playing, but Canal Vue does.
Resident Michael became blind in adulthood; a life-changing event that has meant the day-to-day things he liked subsequently became very limited.
Once the bass guitarist in a band, the emotional and mental effects of losing his sight took away his passion for music and his confidence to play the bass guitar.
Now with the support of his peers and the enthusiasm of staff at Canal Vue Care Home, MJ is in demand supporting activities coordinator Naomi during a weekly jamming session.
Together they hold an hour-long music concert for all to enjoy. Playing by ear MJ will select the tracks and putting her previous career as a cruise ship entertainer to good use, Naomi will sing along to provide residents will a live music treat.
Activities Coordinator, Naomi, at Canal Vue Care Home says: “It’s fantastic to be able to hear MJ play and sing with him. Previously MJ wouldn’t socialise much but now his confidence has really grown and we’re all benefitting from him being with us and picking up his guitar again.”
